My first trip to Baja was the first time I ever successfully popped up on a surfboard and rode a wave. From that moment on, I was hooked. I’ve spent this past summer teaching myself to surf in Florida, and my love for the ocean has only grown deeper. I’ve fallen in love and become obsessed with every part of surfing, from the pre-dawn wakeups to catch the best waves (and hopefully beat out all the locals into the lineup), the endless pop-up drills and weight lifting sessions, to dialing in my nutrition so I can perform my best on the water, and especially to the ever-growing collection of cute bathing suits and board shorts along the way! Surfing isn’t just a hobby for me anymore this summer; it shaped my relationship to my creativity, my self-care, my discipline, and the way I’m choosing to move through the world… It really has become an integral part of my practice, and because of that, I’ve dedicated this piece to my time on the water this summer and the relationship I’ve built with myself through the waves.
